Arthritis Management for Seniors

Arthritis is more than just an “aching joint.” For many older adults, it can mean having difficulty doing the things such as, gardening, walking, playing with grandkids, or simply getting out of bed. Good news, At All About Physiotherapy Performance Centre, we believe in empowering seniors to take control of their health and mobility. We provide care, support, and movement-based therapies. Arthritis is manageable and life can start to feel enjoyable again.

What Is Arthritis, Really?

Arthritis isn’t just one condition. It is a group of joint disorders that cause pain, swelling, and stiffness. The most common types in older adults include:

  • Osteoarthritis (OA): Breakdown of cartilage and underlying bone in joints over time.
  • Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA): An autoimmune condition that affects the lining of the joints.
  • Psoriatic Arthritis: Often linked with skin psoriasis.

Symptoms of Arthritis

Common symptoms include:

  • Morning stiffness that lasts more than 30 minutes
  • Pain during or after movement
  • Swelling around joints
  • Decreased range of motion

Why Physiotherapy? Why our clinic?

While medication may reduce symptoms temporarily, physiotherapy tackles arthritis at the root by improving how your body moves and functions. At All About Physiotherapy Performance Centre, we offer:

  • Gentle Joint Mobilization – to improve flexibility and reduce stiffness.
  • Strengthening Programs – to support the joints and prevent further wear and tear.
  • Balance & Fall Prevention Exercises – because joint pain can affect stability and confidence.
  • Thermal Modalities (Heat & Cold Therapy) – to manage inflammation and reduce pain naturally.
  • Education & Home Strategies – we’ll help you understand how to pace your activities, use assistive devices if needed, and move smarter day-to-day.

Real-Life Example: Regaining Independence

Mrs. L, a 72-year-old Etobicoke resident, came to us with severe knee arthritis. She stopped going on her morning walks and had trouble climbing stairs. After a thorough initial assessment at All About Physiotherapy Performance Centre, our expert physiotherapists created a customized treatment plan including:

  • Seated strengthening and resistance band exercises
  • Gentle manual therapy
  • A daily stretching routine
  • Tips for joint-friendly shoes and walking aids

Three months later? She’s back to walking the block, managing her grocery trips, and most importantly feeling like herself again.

Whether you’re in Etobicoke, Mississauga, Toronto, or all of the GTA, we’re here to help you live with less pain and more joy. Our highly-educated physiotherapists will walk you through every step of your recovery, making therapy feel approachable.
